Sidley Speaks Up
Thanks to the heads-up from one of this blog’s faithful readers, we now have a bit more information (or not) of what happened to Samantha… courtesy of report by Stephanie Lysaght, a reporter at the LA Times:
I called Samantha today, hoping to straighten out the details of her tragic ouster, but Samantha seemed just as perplexed as I was. “I would like to know why they cut me out too, but I don’t know,” exclaimed Samantha. “I really don’t know.”
From what I could gather, however, Samantha wouldn’t miss her “Idol” days too much. “It was so draining,” she sighed, and also copped to feeling “different” from her fellow contestants. “They’re very enthusiastic to be on TV,” Samantha explained, and “they all listen to the same type of music.” She also said that the “fake smiles” and 15-hour days weren’t really her speed.

AI Top12 Ladies vs. Samantha
I just watched the Top 12 Ladies on tonight’s episode of AI. Painfully NOT “the best talent ever” as claimed. In fact, I came across a newly uploaded YouTube video of Samantha Sidley while watching the DVR of the show. Click HERE to view a “live” performance (practice session, actually) of Samantha, a piano, and a bass. I rate the YouTube video better than 9 of the 12 performances tonight. Crazy!!
Search for Sidley Continues
It’s been a week since the fateful episode of American Idol where we were left scratching our noggins wondering what happened to Samantha Sidley. There she was in the background of several crowd shots, but not once was her name uttered and only once did her pretty face grace the screen. That has left America wondering what happened to her.

The last we saw of Samantha Sidley
While not technically the last frame featuring Samantha from the Top 50 episode of American Idol, this IS the last time we saw her (and only her) on screen in that show. It’s a sad day, not just because she’s not moving forward into the “Top 24″ competition and beyond, but because we have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what kept her out of it.
American Sidley-ness… Samantha Doesn’t Make the Cut
I’ve run through the DVR recording twice tonight, but in fine American Idol fashion the show ran long (how the hell could it when it’s prerecorded months in advance!?!) and I couldn’t double check the final 12 girls before the recording stopped <ugh!>. Here’s what I know…

She wasn’t even mentioned, let alone shown on camera in Tuesday’s American Idol episode. I guess that she must not have sang yet another Bryan Adams song like all the others (or so it seemed). But, we now know she was in the final 50.

On Wednesday night, we got a quick glimpse of Samantha as the show started… then again we saw her wonderful smile at the 26 minute mark. Moments later she’s in the background sitting in the back row of the waiting area… sometimes in a dark red leather jacket and sometimes in just the white short sleeved blouse.
Vote for the Worst has a complete run-down of the top 24 and her name does not appear. I see no indication of WHY she’s not there. We certainly didn’t get to hear her sing even once more than her audition in Omaha. Nor did we get to hear Simon’s pithy comments about her confidence or being shy or whatever.
Makes me wonder if the ONLY reason they included her in the Omaha audition show was because of the stupid antics of the judges. NO MATTER… if that hadn’t happened, most of us wouldn’t have ever heard her lovely voice or gazed upon her beautiful smile. May she go far! I’ll buy every song she ever puts on sale. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy listening to her tunes on MySpace.
Samantha… you go girl!

Slezak Ranks “Demure” Sidley #2
Michael Slezak of Entertainment Weekly ranks our girl Samantha Sidley #2:
Demure beauty played along gamely when Ryan and Paula swapped duties during her audition, then delivered a restrained, lovely version of ”Don’t Know Why.” If, as we suspect, she’s more than a Norah Jones copycat, she’s one to watch.
Can’t be happier… may she go far!
